RE(a)D Dot Stories - The Children!

Presenting to you (*DRUMROLLS*), the participants for RE(a)D DOT STORIES 2009!

THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE!

RE(a)D DOT STORIES - SHOW TIME!

After 2 plus hours of activities outside, the children returned to RI(JC) to act out how their own interpretation of how their legends should end.

The competition between Badang the Strongman and another Strongman from India invovled lifting elephants! And out of the blue, a mouse came which disturbed the whole competition.
"LOOK AT HOW STRONG I AM" say Badang, as he lifted the elephant. (comment: the elephant is really cute!)

Another group came up with an interesting explaination of how the Junk Island got its name - Once you touch the island, you will become a junk, and so, when one day a captain (boy in red) led his ship near the island (boys in blue), they got into something that they never expected!

Anothe group set the scene well!

the children were all happy that they were able to perform and express their ideas!

RE(a)D DOT STORIES - Exploration and Group Work!

After storytelling, some children explored the place a bit more....
And some, plunged straight into group work and discussion to think of an alternative ending for the lengend they have heard. Their serious attitudes touched many of us...

Some read the worksheet prepared by us in great detailed, thinking and looking through the summary of the legend once again..

Eventually, some started rehearsing for the dramatization of their alternative ending. Look at how creative and flexible they are!

Some really enjoyed the fruits of their label. And did a bit more by doing props. Isn't the crown pretty? xD

RE(a)D DOT STORIES - Outdoors, Stories and FUN!

After the opening, we started with icebreakers to warm everyone up. "LETS DO THE FRIENDSHIP DANCE!" and make new friends, get to know each other better before going out to have more fun!

A RE(a)D DOT organising team member talking to the children to make friends with them (: and warm them up!

Soon, the children arrived at the outdoor venues to listen to local myths and legends! Everyone was getting rather excited and can't wait to see how the stories are like. (ABOVE) children running up staircase at Fort Canning Park

Experienced storyteller Kamina telling a group of 20 children at Fort Canning about Badang the Strongman and Junk Island!

At another place.....

Shireen, a very enthusiastic and engaging story telling, is telling the children about Badang the Strongman and Radin Mas along hte Singapore River!

RE(a)D DOT STORIES - The Opening

The day started with a wonderful introduction by Yajie and Tat Chern, and a slide show which told the children to look out for the interesting details in Singapore! Remember: SINGAPORE IS NEVER TOO BORING!
(ABOVE) An interesting opening address by Mr Puvan, deputy head of National Education Branch, Ministry of Education, which used an anology of the story about the king spider from "Fighting Spiders" to inspire the children.

Followed by a well delivered play of Raja the India by us (: The character of Raja, played by Sadikin is humourous and funny, and well liked by many children!

Children listening and and watching attentively! and actively participating in the discussion and address by the GOH!
PICK ME PICK ME! xD
